If it's arithmetic there will be a common difference between successive terms (there isn't).

For a geometric sequence there will be a common ratio between successive terms. That's the second term divided by the first, the third divided by the second, etc.

2/4 = 1/2

1/2 = 1/2

1/2 / 1 = 1/2

r=1/2, geometric, first choice
