[tex]x=-1,y=-3[/tex]


EXPLANATION

The given equations are:

[tex]x + y = - 4...(1)[/tex]

and

[tex]x - y = 2...(2)[/tex]


If we add equation (2) to equation (1) we get,


[tex]x + x - y + y = 2 + - 4[/tex]


This implies that,.
[tex]2x = - 2[/tex]


Divide both sides by 2 to get,

[tex]x = - 1[/tex]


We put x=-1 into equation 1 to get,


[tex] - 1 + y = - 4[/tex]

We solve for t to get,


[tex]y = - 4 + 1[/tex]


This implies that,
