Answer: a) x2   b)÷3

Step-by-step explanation:

a) Lets assume x=2

If it wasn't doubled, then y = 5 x 2. y = 10

But if it doubled then 2 x 2 = 4. And x = 4 now.

Which means y = 5 x 4. y = 20.

Therefore it is x2 since 10 doubled to 20.

b) Lets assume x=1 again

If it wasn't tripled, then y = [tex]\frac{5}{1}[/tex]. y = 5.

But if it tripled then 1 x 3 = 3. And x = 3 now.

Which means y = [tex]\frac{5}{3}[/tex]. y = 1.666666667

Therefore it is ÷3 since 5 was divided by 3 to get the answer.

Hope this helps :)
