Answer:

The constellations are stars that humans have seen a picture or pattern in. Long ago, early astronomers and scholars believed that constellations were heavenly beings. I'm not sure whether the narrator is meaning the stars, or that she/he believes that there are divine beings in the sky, or maybe passed loved ones or ancestors that are looking down on them.
