We use the ratio of the atoms C and O from the chemical formula. We calculate as follows:

71.89 g CO2 ( 1 mol CO2 / 44.01 g CO2 ) (1 mol O2 / 1 mol CO2) (32 g O2 / 1 mol ) = 52.27 g O2

Therefore,

71.89 g CO2 =  52.27 g O2
