why did people film battles an wars

The motivation to film battles or wars is the same as why people wrote about wars, to document them. Another motivation might be to obtain footage to use in propaganda videos. Modern day terrorist organizations often use footage they take of successful battles to claim to their own people that they are winning the war (even when they are not!).
