Why is Australia considered a Continent?

I found this online.

Australia is generally considered a continent (Australia the continent includes Tasmania and Papua) because it doesn't share a continental shelf with Asia. Greenland is similar to Borneo - it is linked via the continental shelf with North America, and thus isn't really a continent.
