Simplifying an expression

In order to simplify the expression

y² + 11y - 6y + y²,

we just have to add the terms with the same unkowns or combine like terms

terms with y: +11y and -6y

terms with y²: +y² and +y²

Now, we combine like terms:

terms with y: +11y - 6y = 5y

terms with y²: +y² + y² = 2y²

Then

y² + 11y - 6y + y²

= 2y² + 5y

Answer: y² + 11y - 6y + y² = 2y² + 5y
