Please help! Why did people have to learn how to make clothes and build shelter?

They learned to make shelter and clothes because of harsh weather conditions or the climate they had there like in Egypt they wore towels on their heads to keep cool in the hot sun and like people that live in the jungle or tropical weather build houses above ground to prevent flooding in the house.
