The surgical incision into a kidney to remove a stone is called nephron lithotomy. The surgical crushing of a kidney stone is called nephron lithotripsy. In the medical term lithotripsy, the word root means stone.  The meaning of the medical term extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy is noninvasive treatment for removal of kidney or ureteral stones.
